Happy 30th Birthday Emily xoxo Hurricane Irene

December 31, 2011

I don’t want this post to turn into a pity party but I had spent the better part of a decade planning my thirtieth birthday party. Guess what I got for it? Hurricane Irene. On the day of my birthday. And 100% cancellation from all my NYC friends. No matter, I had 8 British friends who’s flights home got cancelled and got another 9 days stranded with me in Montauk, in a boarded up house, in a hurricane. We trespassed into the Andy Warhol estate armed with a 6 pack of beer each and about 10 cameras between us. Turned out it was the best birthday ever.

Re: No-one likes any of these logos

February 13, 2011

Great news! I have some more readers… My new bosses. God damn Google alerts. Yep I’ve haven’t blogged anything about my new job yet but when some logos I did were being discussed in an email chain titled ‘No-one likes any of these logos’ I thought it was time to let you all know I’m just about surviving in my first full-time position. I made some infographics of how I spend my time in the office but decided against blogging them, instead you get a screen shot of what popped up on my computer on Feb 1st, I celebrated by getting really drunk and cycling around NYC dressed in black with no lights on my bike.

Happy Belated Christmas

January 9, 2011

Happy Belated Christmas to all my two loyal readers. I spent Christmas with the fam in Royal Tunbridge Wells, England. I got some pretty cool presents and thought I’d draw them so you can share in my joy.

uncovering stories of change

November 18, 2009

Dowser shares the stories, insights, and best practices from social innovators to highlight the landscape of creative social change and inspire positive action. They approached me after seeing my work for Ladies Lotto; I was asked to design the logo and color palette for the website, which is going to start its life off as a wordpress blog. I start to get a bit nervous if by _v9 of a logo I am nowhere near pleasing my clients. Luckily one of the logos in _v8.3 seemed to do the trick and I am told that everyone is happy. Coming soon: www.dowser.orgdowser

miserable failure?

September 23, 2009

I have a Samuel Beckett quote pinned on the wall by my desk. It says ‘FAIL, FAIL AGAIN, FAIL BETTER.’ And boy, I LOVE a good failure.

I did a program for a Metal Ball for Performa, a non-profit visual arts organization. It was screen-printed on shiny metallic paper and I knew it was going to be a disaster. I just knew it – there was no way the ink was going to stick to the surface, but they had this roll of the stuff they wanted using up and the printer was so mean and no help. Anyway, they made me do it. I did it and on the day of the event, when I went to pick the 500 that had been made, I realized that the printer had used talcum powder to separate the sheets so they did not stick together. There was white powder everywhere and not in the good way and when I took them to the event all the planners were screaming at me that my programs would ruin all the peoples nice outfits. Anyway half of them would not come apart and the ink was peeling off the other half. Disaster. I got really drunk and stole a big helium ‘E’ for Emily and made a dash for home.

Uncle Funky’s T-Shirts

September 3, 2009

Jeff asked me to design a T-Shirt for Uncle Funky’s Longboards. He wanted it to be old school and pretty sick. Our friend Luis designed the original round logo a few years back and ‘bikini girl’ is Mallory, a sports illustrated swinsuit model. It is sold in his online store unclefunkys.com and he gives lots away as promotion. This is our first version of the T-Shirt and we are going to get them reprinted as we are not really happy with the screen-printing job on the flowers on the back.
