Emily is a film director

Hailing from the bucolic English countryside, Emily Anderson has spent the past decade—since moving to New York—telling people’s stories in a variety of mediums. Emily’s early career path took many twists and turns including stints as a ski guide in the Alps, live-in help for adults with mental health issues, illustrator, designer, and creative director. These, combined with a series of happy accidents and firings, led Emily to her dream job as in-house filmmaker at Ogilvy & Mather New York. Her films strive to make sense of humanity while telling a good story—and a true one. Her most terrifying interview was with a billionaire Russian oligarch who was also a pop star, accompanied by a trio of armed bodyguards who refused to turn their phone ringers off. Not content to stay within her comfort zone, Emily has made films all over the U.S. and the world—Australia, Japan, Vietnam, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Canada, and Russia (where, after a separate incident with the KGB, she’ll probably not be returning). Her first commercial was for adult urinary incontinence pads. Her goal is to be the first female to direct a James Bond film. She’s developing her work towards feature length fiction and documentaries; and is excited about the journey ahead.

The Usual is a creative team with a penchant for culture and the outdoors. We specialize in smart, irreverent branded content. Living year-round in Montauk, we saw how the beach town brought some of NYC’s most interesting creatives out for the weekends to surf, relax, and make work. We decided to explore these personalities through a limited edition newsprint publication. We chose newsprint because it wasn’t precious – something people could easily read while having a lazy Saturday at the beach. We called ourselves “The Usual” because our mission was to be anything but that – exploring the unusual stories and people that make the “drinking village with a fishing problem” so vibrant and special. Remind us to tell you about the time Yasha uncovered that Sea Monkeys were invented in Montauk by the first Jewish member of the KKK. Since we began in 2011, we’ve expanded into a boutique creative agency to help clients translate their vision through an authentic lens. We work across a variety of platforms including print, video, web, events and social media, specializing in smart, irreverent branded content.
